The Art of Joy

Are you stuck?
Unhappy where you are, but when change or new adventure is offered you brace and back away?
Do you wish you could just relax, switch off overthinking, befriend your body and mind and feel at home in them?
Do you, even when things are going well, have a nagging low-level anxiety that stands between you and enjoyment?
Do you want to discover joy?
Joy is a skill, a practice, an art that, in Western society at least, we are not often taught as children. In fact we are taught the opposite, as if self-criticism & “fitting in” is the only way we will ever be effective, happy or successful. It isn’t true; in fact the opposite is true, but by the time we become adults this negative outlook has often become so ingrained it can feel like just the way things are, and always have been.
But that is an illusion.
The original human societies – hunter gatherer societies & indigenous societies, have a much greater joy factor than ours does. In such cultures, happiness is considered the norm, a feature of day to day life.
Joy is cultivated, nurtured, and encouraged.
We may feel we are too far gone; that this is the way it will always be. Not so. The human brain is very plastic and capable of changing and adapting more easily than we think, once we have the tools. And deep down, because we know that happiness is our human birthright – our ancestral memory, our gut, our heart, all recognise the path towards joy, even when our intellect tries to pull the party line and nay-say, the shift towards happiness, towards joy, can be more straightforward than we might think.
Joy is an art.
Any art requires tools, and skills; we give you those tools, those skills.
Skills of the mind & body, to manage your nervous system, hack your neuroscience, and develop the shamanic – for everything in life is a blend of the rational, known world – and of creation, exploration and play. Neglect either, and there is imbalance. As you implement these skills, watch as your day-to-day reality, your inner as well as your outer world, begin to transform.
